A new possibility to monitor collisions of relativistic heavy ions at LHC and RHIC

چکیده

We consider the radiation of particles of one bunch in the collective field of the oncoming bunch, called coherent bremsstrahlung (CBS). The main characteristics of CBS for LHC (in the Pb–Pb mode) and for RHIC are calculated. At LHC about 3.9 · 10dEγ/Eγ photons per second are expected for photon energies Eγ < ∼ Ec = 93 eV. It seems that CBS can be a potential tool for optimizing collisions and for measuring beam parameters. The bunch length σz can be found from the critical energy of the CBS spectrum Ec ∝ 1/σz ; the transverse bunch size σ⊥ is related to the photon rate dNγ ∝ 1/σ⊥. A specific dependence of dNγ on the impact parameter between the beams allows for a fast control over the beam displacement.

Soft-hadronic Observables for Relativistic Heavy-ion Collisions at Rhic and Lhc * * *

The relativistic hydrodynamics together with the single-freeze-out statistical hadronization model is used to describe the midrapidity hadron production in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions at RHIC and LHC. At the highest RHIC energy our approach gives a quite satisfactory global description of soft hadronic observables including the HBT radii. With the increased initial energy, from RHIC...

Photon-Photon and Photon-Hadron Interactions at Relativistic Heavy Ion Colliders

In central collisions at relativistic heavy ion colliders like the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider RHIC/Brookhaven and the Large Hadron Collider LHC (in its heavy ion mode) at CERN/Geneva, one aims at detecting a new form of hadronic matter — the Quark Gluon Plasma. We discuss here a complementary aspect of these collisions, the very peripheral ones. Due to coherence, there are strong electroma...

Baryon stopping as a new probe of geometric scaling.

We suggest using net-baryon rapidity distributions in central relativistic heavy-ion collisions at energies reached at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron, BNL Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC), and CERN LHC in order to probe saturation physics. Within the color glass condensate framework based on small-coupling QCD, net-baryon rapidity distributions are shown to exhibit geometric scaling. I...

This is a review of the physics prospects for relativistic heavy ion collisions in the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The motivation for the study of superdense matter created in relativistic heavy ion collision is the prospect of observing a novel state of strongly interacting matter, the quark-gluon plasma. Experiments at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) and the Relativistic Heavy Ion Col...
